A very fast, well armed and sturdy fighter designed during World War two. Its design came as a request to the call for a carrier based fighter that could match its land based counterparts in performance. It was the first prop driven aircraft to exceed 400mph in level flight. And in the hands of an experience pilot who knew its strong point's could make this craft more than an match for most enemy fighters at the time. The nickname in my title today was given to this aircraft by the Japanese. This from the sound made by air flowing over the ducts on the inboard wing leading edges. Overall production of this plane was 12571, and marked the end of propeller driven aircraft in military fighter service. The Corsair served with the US, Britain, France, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and Argentina during WW2, Korea, The Suez Crisis, over French Indochina and Algeria.
These shots where at EAA Air Venture 2015 in Oshkosh, WI. As I've mentioned before, seeing flying history is an awesome feeling, if you get a chance to experience an airshow near you. Consider it, and keep them flying! Till next time, Happy Clicking Lance
