Lance Hi all, this week we're going to talk a little about protecting yourself during work in the field.
When shooting in the outdoors your knees can talk a beating, getting down on hard or rocking ground can cause issues later. But there are a few low cost items to consider to make the process more pleasant. Mats used for gardening or yoga are great low cost options, consider add on too these as well, if the ground is wet carrying a garbage bag to put under the mat is helpful. If you working on very uneven rocky or very hard ground another option would be knee pads such as used by skateboarders. They're very durable but allow a full range of motion. Till next time Happy Clicking Lance Hi all, I decided to share some updated observations around the Nikon 200-500mm VR as much of this month I’ve been using the lens with a Nikon TC14E version 2 Teleconverter. I am very happy to report the combo has performed extremely well. Allowing me to capture what we tend to call the little ones (songbirds) and some father away duck shots. The sharpness is still outstanding, with the teleconverter attacked my starting F-stop is F8. And using handheld is still awesome with its VR rated at 4½ stops improvement. Remember too this lens works great on full frame cameras, but performance is awesome on DX as well. current list of cameras it works with follows: D5,D4, D4s, D3, D3s, D3P, D3x, Df, D810, D800/e, D750, D700, D610, D600, D300, D300s, D7000, D7100, D7200, D5500, D5300, D5200, D5100, D5000, D3300, D3200, D3100 and newer Overall, if your shooting Nikon and looking for a great birding, wildlife shooting option that won’t break the bank! This lens which you can fine for around $1400.00, and a TC14 converter might the perfect combo. Till next time. We all know there are certain rules your should follow when doing photography. We also know the most important part of any shoot is to get the shot. And in wildlife photography this is so very true, as of course you're not dealing with models or landscapes which ton a certain degree you can work around and try to get that perfect shot. With animals you're working around they everyday lives, and they are going to do what they want.
Why do I bring this up you ask? Well, about two weeks ago while shooting at the Zoo with my friend/fellow photographer Scott Engel, we noticed quite a few folks enjoying the zoo, but also taking lots of photo's, which we both thought was great! But, there was this one group of ladies that seemed very obsessed with camera settings and missing lots of brief moments of great photo opportunities. So while I applaud they trying to learn. I think that more important to do on the fly, and more importantly learn about the animals you're trying to photograph, learn there moods and needs, that will serve you much better in your endeavors. Till next time! Happy Clicking Lance Themba, Long Winter Nap. At The Milwaukee County Zoo Hi all, I thought this week I'd share a short video taken at the Milwaukee County Zoo. When I saw Themba, the Zoo male lion sleeping on his heated rock. My first thought where of the movie, The Witch, The Lion and The Wardrobe. I hope you enjoy. Thanks for stopping by. Till next time happy clicking Lance This weeks title, while being the name of the last movie made by the well known actor Peter Sellers, actually focuses on a very important aspect of photography. Namely putting in your time on your subject. This is important in any venue of photography, but I believe most important in wildlife photography. Lets face it, the animals are going to go about there normal day. And as that's the way we wish to capture them its important we not impact them while trying to get the shot.
The shots I posted here were only possible because I was willing to stay put and wait for them to give me the gift of that special shot, that may happen in 10 minutes after getting there, or 8 hours into a day. So just to recap, if you give of your time, many times you will be rewarded with that great capture. Till next time. Happy Clicking Lance You can check out my work at www.imagesbylemke.org |
